With or without you

We've known for a while that U2 recently released a single called "Get on your boots", which is itself why the new album hasn't managed even one listen, and more than enough reason to make the possession of any album after Pop an almost divorce-worthy sin.

Late-stage U2: one of life's great disappointments.

U2 have always had the propensity towards crap. The only change that's really happened is that where it used to be all about Bono's piety regarding the cult of himself, it's now basically down to utterly meaningless lyrics without even a hint of though matched to utterly unimaginative guitar work.

The thing is that U2 have always been pseuds. They were always sub-Echo and the Bunnymen, then they moved on to sub-Albert Collins, then on to sub-Bowie. Now they're sub-Radiohead, who previously aspired to be like U2.

But you have to admire rich people who want to end world poverty, don't you?
