Hello. Has anyone asked about 'partner performers' yet?

How many is too many albums to have in regards to 'couple rock'.

White Stripes (well, technically not a couple anymore, or were they?), Mates of State, The Carpenters, Captain and Tennille, Wings, oh, okay, Beyonce and Jay Z? Oh! June and Johnny Cash?

Does having two or more of these type of albums indicate some weird sort of codependence fetish one must stay clear of?

I mean, usually the music's pretty good, but are we always going to be listening a bit too closely to the lyrics for some revelation about the relationship.

Or maybe that's just me?

I think you missed out The Beloved, who are being used on a Homebase ad (DIY superstore in the UK) at the moment.

The main thing about couples making music is that it can be a bit "No, I love you more!". Early Belle & Sebastian sound a bit like Stuart is trying to show off to Isobel (sic?) just how deep he is. Low totally avoid the couple tweeness. Ike & Tina Turner were a bit too volatile. Also Björk has probably had her fair share of musical collaborators in bed (Thor from The Sugarcubes, Howie B, Tricky, Goldie).

But if it's a twee couple's band I recommend only getting the relevant post-break-up albums.

Gossy - how could you forget Sonny and Cher?

And yes, the White Stripes were married once, but that's all over now and Jack and I are preparing to elope.

In my mind.

ABBA?

Loads of those folky 70s types were couples at one stage or other too... carole king and james taylor surely, but they had some nice duets or something didn't they?

if someone has enough 'couple rock' to make it look like a theme is emerging then i reckon it's time to take the first train outta there.
